Learn French efficiently with the ALTER EGO Method

From basic to proficient, our programs follow the European Linguistic Standards (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and stress the four communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

ALTER EGO is a modern, innovative French language method for adults. With a textbook and an exercise book for homework, it represents a very structured, practical and comprehensive approach. The students have their own CD, and DVDs are used in class. Each book corresponds to 120 hours of instruction.

Finding the right course :

A free placement test (both written and oral) is offered to determine your level of proficiency and introduce you to our programs:

• Level A1 : BASIC USER

Achieve a basic level of proficiency allowing you to understand and use daily expressions in the present tense; to introduce yourself; to ask and answer simple questions about personal matters; and to express likes and dislikes.

• Level A2 : ELEMENTARY USER

Learn to communicate with simple and commonly-used sentences; to perform routine tasks such as describing objects, making a purchase and discussing familiar topics; to relate past events and talk about future projects.

• Levels B1/B2 : INDEPENDANT USER

Understand the main points of clear standard comments on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, leisure, etc.; present your resume, express feelings, relate events, negociate and give an opinion.

• Levels C1/C2 : PROFICIENT USER

You are quite functional in the language and, therefore, can choose to increase your knowledge by enrolling in courses that meet specific needs and help you achieve specific linguistic objectives, depending on your interests.

Books:

Alter Ego 1 – basic user-level A1-A2

Alter Ego 2 – elementary user-level A2-B1

Alter Ego 3 – independent user-level B1

Alter Ego 4 – vantage-level B2

Alter Ego 5 – proficient user / mastery-levels C1 / C2

-> $55/book (includes: textbook, CD and exercise book) Each textbook covers 4 to 5 levels.

Program: Emphasis is on communication and there is a maximum of 12 students per class to ensure the active participation of each one.

Schedule: 10-week sessions are offered and classes are scheduled once or twice a week, morning or evening.

Fee: $340 per session + $55 for the book. No tax.

Conversation / Maintenance

Prerequisite: Intermediate level

Program: theme-based discussion group classes to help maintain and enrich your level of French.

Schedule: every Thursday, 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Fee: $205 for a 10-week session

Tutoring for adults : private / semi-private sessions

Do you want to improve your writing or speaking skills? Your pronunciation ? Are you preparing for a job interview or an exam? We will adapt the content of the course to meet your personal needs or objectives.

Schedule: according to your availability and the teacher availability.

Workshops + Other courses

The Alliance Française also offers courses using material from the media (Radio-Canada, TV5 Monde,…) and from the arts, and organizes a variety of workshops.

Programme : Vous n´êtes pas toujours sûr de l´orthographe des mots ? « allé » ou « aller » ? La grammaire vous semble parfois un peu lointaine ? L´Alliance française peut vous aider à améliorer et à renforcer vos compétences écrites.

Sur base de vos besoins (objectifs définis avec le professeur au premier cours de la session), nous vous proposons de revoir les bases de la grammaire et de l´orthographe. Infinitifs, participes passés et concordance des temps n´auront plus de secrets pour vous !

Cette session est idéale pour les francophones qui souhaitent améliorer leurs productions écrites (textes, projets, courriels, lettres officielles) dans un but professionnel ou personnel. Vous êtes tous les bienvenus!
